Mick Colliss’s tale of mateship, creative thinking and sudoku will leave you breathless with laughter. Mick and his best mates travelled to India to take part in the International Sudoku Championships – even though they didn’t know how to play the game.
This is the story of Mick Colliss, a man who desperately wanted to play Rugby for Australia, and represent his country. After failing at numerous attempts to gain any notice at Rugby, as well as the various other sports and hobbies he tried, it was quite by chance that he came across a puzzle that had international followers and which might provide him with a chance to represent his country - Sudoku. Against all odds (and without any idea of how to actually play the game), Mick and his friends became Australian Champions… well sort of!
He was soon to take four of his best mates to the International Sudoku Championships in India. Mick tells a laugh out loud true story of mateship, having a go and never giving up, no matter what the odds.
- Mick is widely regarded as Australia’s best after dinner speaker/entertainer.
- He wanted to represent Australia, but didn’t have luck with rugby or any other sports or hobbies, until he found Sudoku. He didn’t know how to play, but that didn’t matter!
Mick and three of his best mates formed the first Australian Sudoku Team and journeyed to the International Sudoku Championships in India.
- When Mick finally achieved his goal of representing his country, it wasn’t exactly what he expected!
- Mick is one of Australia’s best storytellers, many would say THE best.
Mick Colliss is an author, writer, sports commentator, emcee, guest speaker and modern day poet. He was also the vice captain of the first ever Australian Sudoku team. The team travelled to India to compete at the World Sudoku Championships. They didn’t know how to play, but that didn’t bother them.
Determined to represent Australia at something, Mick had originally hoped for success at the sport of rugby. Unsuccessful, he then tried other sports. His run of luck continued until he finally discovered Sudoku. He and three of his best mates became “Australian champions” and were soon on a plane to India to compete at the International Sudoku Championships in India.
Mick did achieve the goal of representing his country even though it wasn’t exactly in the field or the way he expected it to occur. Mick’s is a laugh out loud true story about mateship, having a go and never giving up, no matter what the odds. It's ideal for corporate, sports and school functions.
There are already discussions about making a film of his story, with the concept being compared to films like The Castle.
Mick is widely regarded as Australia’s most entertaining after dinner speaker/comedian.

Mick was fantastic! Being a rugby lunch there were plenty of sports fans in the room that really enjoyed Mick’s story. His story struck a chord with everyone who grew up wanting to represent their country.

Mick certainly met our expectations. He was very well received by our audience, I don’t think there was a single person in the room that didn’t have a smile from ear to ear and sore cheeks from the continuous laughter that he provided on the night! A fantastic laugh out loud story, and an all round brilliant entertainer!

We were very happy with Mick I have received a lot of good feedback and there was a lot of laughter in the audience. Just to let you know I have a lot of very positive feedback about your talk yesterday from many people present. This has also included emails and phone calls which is unusual. A common theme was a nice entertaining, interesting happy story without a lot of swearing. It should lead to a few more gigs for sure. Well done mate.
Only the second 10 out of 10 performance I've seen in 25 years!!
Excellent, very funny and engaging.
The tension of the unknown guest speaker was broken brilliantly by Mick with a well delivered story that captivated the audience and had them in stitches.
